Invaluable support for local survivors of rape and sexual abuse in Reading

Invaluable Support for Local Survivors of Rape & Sexual Abuse in Reading, Berkshire
Holy Brook Associates, in partnership with The Survivor’s Trust (TST) and Trust House Reading, the Reading & Berkshire Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre, are hosting a seminar on Wednesday 30th November 2016, to discuss and share best practice and consider how everyone can work together to ensure adequate support for survivors.
Rachel Eden, Director of Holy Brook Associates commented: “Now more than ever it is important to bring together people from a range of fields with a common aim – to improve support for survivors of rape and sexual abuse.  Trust House Reading is Holy Brook Associates’ charity of the year, and we’re delighted to be supporting them in creating a seminar and developing recommendations for action that will make a real difference”.
National figures and local experts will come together at this event to raise awareness and discuss best practice in supporting survivors of rape and sexual abuse, and how they can work together to deliver this.  This event will host key speakers including Faye Maxted, OBE, and collaborate using the tried and tested approach of workshops and discussion, and by using new online collaboration tools and social media to make this event as accessible to as many people as possible.
Keynote speakers will include:
Faye Maxted, OBE, Chief Executive of the Survivors Trust
DCI Justin Fletcher, Detective Chief Inspector, Crime & PVP Strategy, Thames Valley Police
Dr Jennifer Wallis, Lead Specialist CAMH – Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust
Wendy Walker, Policy Development Officer – Partnerships & Commissioning, Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley
Rebecca Flynn, Service Manager, Safeguarding Adults Team (SAT)
Seminar attendees with a professional or campaigning interest will gain a broader understanding and perspectives about improving support for survivors of rape and sexual abuse, and practical ideas to implement and share with colleagues.  There will be facilitated networking opportunities with fellow participants, and access to an online collaboration forum, both before and after the event, to further develop ideas and connections, together with a post-event report that summarises presentations, key discussion themes and any specific outputs agreed on the day.

The Survivors Trust (TST) is a UK-wide national umbrella agency for 141 specialist organisations for support for the impact of rape, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse throughout the UK and Ireland.
Our Trustee Board is exclusively made up of Managers and Directors of rape and sexual abuse support services. Our core aim is to empower survivors or rape, sexual violence or childhood sexual abuse through supporting and improving effective responses to survivors. Member organisations provide a range of direct services to survivors including counselling, support, helplines and advocacy services for women, men and children.
We provide support and networking for member agencies; deliver accredited training; raise awareness about rape and sexual abuse and its effect on survivors, their supporters and society at large; promote effective responses to rape and sexual abuse on a local, regional and national level.
TST supports working in ways that recognise human rights and dignity; demonstrate understanding of the role of gender in the impact of sexual violence and abuse on women and men; appreciate the variety of human experience and culture; demonstrate a commitment to showing justice in dealing with all others; and encourage development and improvement of responses to all survivors.
